Youth Exchange "3,2,1... Time is Up" — Our Part

Updated: May 16

The Youth Exchange on Climate Change and sustainable lifestyles aimed to answer the questions that young people aged from 16 to 30 might have had, and to inspire them in their daily lives. Climate change poses a significant threat to the sustainable development and prosperity of the countries of the world. The lack of coordinated and ambitious action could entail the deterioration of environmental safety, lack of justice, and strengthening of social inequality.

The solution to this problem came with the responsibility of all individuals and the countries. The project gathered 33 youngsters between 16-30 years old from Greece, Moldova, Georgia, and Türkiye. The project explored the interrelationship between climate change and lifestyles and identified actions young people might take towards more sustainable lifestyles. This project provided information and useful tips around topics relevant to young people and their everyday lives, such as food and drink, travel and transport, leisure and consumption etc.

During this youth exchange, participants explored the links between lifestyles and climate change and they developed critical skills needed to make personal choices towards more sustainable lifestyles. In addition, participants took actions that promoted a greater understanding of climate change and lifestyles in their communities, and they started networking and created partnerships for the sustainability of this project.

Thank you all guys for being a part of this project. It was very special and important for me, as it was my first time being fully by myself as a trainer. You made this an amazing and unforgettable experience for me. I wish i could have said goodbye to each and everyone of you face to face. I hope to see you all again. — AUGUSTA AKRIDITI from SHARP MINDS

How was the project?

In the face of climate change, a significant threat to global sustainable development and prosperity, there is a pressing need for coordinated and ambitious action. Understanding this need, the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange embarked on an initiative known as "3,2,1...TIME IS UP!" This project was specifically designed with the aim to address the questions and concerns young people aged 16 to 30 might have about climate change and sustainable lifestyles, and to inspire them to take active steps in their daily lives towards sustainability.

The chilling reality is that the absence of concerted and ambitious action would lead to the deterioration of environmental safety, a scarcity of justice, and an unfortunate strengthening of social inequality. The solution to these formidable challenges hinges upon the collective responsibility of individuals and countries alike.

Taking a proactive step towards this global issue, our project congregated 33 dynamic youngsters from the age group of 16 to 30 years old, hailing from four diverse nations: Greece, Portugal, Georgia, and Jordan. With an invigorating mix of cultures and perspectives, the project served as a platform for these young individuals to delve into the intricate relationship between climate change and our lifestyles.

The initiative successfully identified various actions that young people could adopt to move towards a more sustainable way of life. It proved to be a resourceful guide providing comprehensive information and practical tips pertinent to young people and their everyday activities. These topics ranged from food and drink, travel and transport, to leisure and consumption.

During this youth exchange, we managed to achieve a number of significant objectives. First, the participants thoroughly explored the connections between lifestyles and climate change, gaining a deeper understanding of their role in this global issue. Second, they honed their critical skills necessary to make personal lifestyle choices that were in line with sustainable living. Lastly, but certainly not least, the participants became active change-makers, taking steps that promoted a broader understanding of climate change and sustainable lifestyles within their respective communities.

This youth exchange did not just end at building awareness and skill development. It fostered networking and helped these young individuals create sustainable partnerships, laying a strong foundation for the continuation of this project. By ensuring the sustainability of the project, it hopes to inspire and engage more young people from around the world to join the cause.

"3,2,1...TIME IS UP!" is more than a project. It is a wake-up call, a call to action for the young generation to step up and take responsibility for their planet. Because when it comes to climate change and sustainability, the time is indeed up.
