Championing the Cause: Empowering Voices for Gender Equality
Nestled in the scenic locale of Traisteni, Romania, the Erasmus+ Youth project titled "YES for Equality!" opened the stage to vigorous conversations and enlightening workshops from 20th to 27th May 2023. This pioneering initiative, brought to life by the non-profit organisation Together Romania and co-funded by the European Union, raised the curtain to an issue that is deeply rooted in societies across the globe - gender inequality.
Our active participant, Didem, a bright 24-year-old member of Active Youth and Sports Association from Turkey, reminisced, "The project was an eye-opening experience. It allowed us to engage in meaningful dialogue about gender inequality and explore possible solutions. It was inspiring to see such a vibrant mix of young minds from Bulgaria, Poland, Slovakia, and Romania dedicated to this cause."
Shining a light on the Gender Equality Index, with Romania scoring 54.5 out of 100 and ranking 25th in the EU, the "YES for Equality!" project took the bull by the horns. It fostered an environment that invited local authorities, NGOs, and enthusiastic young adults, aged 18-27, from various nations to don their "gender glasses." It offered them an opportunity to reflect critically on their stance and approach towards gender inequality and discrimination.
"This project helped us think critically about gender inequality, fostering a real understanding of the problem. We could clearly see that it's not just about awareness, but about changing the way we think and act."
Challenging Gender Inequality: A Collective Endeavour
This project was far from the traditional classrooms, embracing a non-formal, dynamic learning approach. It combined methods rooted in communication, active participation, social engagement, and self-discovery. These unique methodologies, used in a setting of 30 young individuals and five inspiring leaders, facilitated open discussions, enhanced teamwork, and fostered personal growth. Such a transformative learning experience geared participants with the essential tools to challenge gender inequality.
Living in the serene village of Traisteni, the participants experienced the local Romanian culture's charm and warmth. The Loussiana Inn, with its comfortable amenities, provided a conducive environment for the project's execution. "The local hospitality and serene surroundings made our stay both comfortable and enjoyable. It was the perfect setting for the project," shared Elif.
Upon the project's successful completion, each participant received the Youthpass Certificate, an official recognition of their participation, learning, and contribution to this significant cause. This gesture by Together Romania and Erasmus+ Programme illustrates their commitment to endorsing young voices for change.

In conclusion, Active Youth and Sports Club Association, along with its international partners, expresses its gratitude to all participants and stakeholders.
